Agaricus is a common genus that contain both edible and poisonous species. It grows from the soil. Members can be found in fields, yards, forests, and along sidewalks. Species that smell bad or phenolic (like a band-aid) or species that readily bruise yellow should be avoided.

Agaricus has a cap and stem, gills, and an annulus. The gills generally start gray or pink and transition to dark brown with time. The spore color is dark brown. Generally found in the spring or summer.
