Lanmaoa is a genus of boletes characterized by a shallow hymenophore in comparison to other bolete genera. A quick field test for this genus is to determine the ratio of the hymenophore height (H.Y) to the pileus context height (PctY).

If H.Y is 1/5 to 1/3 (one-fifth to one-third) the size of PctY, there's a chance your bolete is Lanmaoa or a Baorangia. This test must be measured from the halfway point from the cap center to cap margin (Wu et al., 2016).
